Hello Ladies, Gentlemen and those of a non-binary nature, my name is Daibhi and this is the Gamerhub community.
In my personal life, when I’m not working with the lovely people here or gaming till the small hours, I’m quite a big fan of tabletop role playing games. Vampire The Masquerade, Blood on the Clocktower and of course, Dungeons and Dragons are all games I enjoy playing.
Some, admittedly, I play better than others. So, basically what I’m trying to say is that if I can’t have my hands on a PS5 controller or a mouse, then a selection of twenty sided dice will do me just fine.
Introduction
This brings me nicely onto Solasta: Crown of The Magister. The geniuses at Tactical Adventures had a brilliant idea: what if they created a boardgames, D&D style campaign and made it a videogame?
This isn’t an original idea: I gave a glowing review of Slay The Spire, which is a roguelike with a very similar premise, but (insert Mickey Mouse impression) oh boy, (back to normality) this game is brilliant.
So, to explain how this works, lets talk gameplay.
Gameplay Mechanics
In Solasta: Crown Of The Magister, gameplay mechanics are deeply rooted in the tradition of classic tabletop role-playing games (RPGs) like Dungeons & Dragons.
Players assemble a party of adventurers, each with their own unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
The game features turn-based tactical combat, where positioning, strategy, and clever use of spells and abilities are crucial for success. Environmental interaction plays a significant role, with players able to utilize cover, elevation, and environmental hazards to gain the upper hand in battles.
Character Progression

Whilst other reviewers criticised the character selection in the past, with the version very kindly handed to us (the light bringer edition), all the DLC comes with it creating an exciting range of options. I might have spent wayyyy too long with customisation options.
Graphics
As for graphics, Solasta: Crown Of The Magister boasts visually stunning graphics that bring its high fantasy world to life in vivid detail. From lush forests and towering mountains to eerie dungeons and mystical ruins, the game’s environments are beautifully crafted and immersive.
The attention to detail in character design and animation adds depth and personality to the diverse cast of heroes and adversaries.
Spell effects and combat animations are visually striking, enhancing the excitement of battles and magical encounters.
The lighting and atmospheric effects further enhance the mood and atmosphere, whether exploring sun-drenched landscapes or delving into dimly lit caverns.
Overall, Solasta’s graphics not only serve to enhance the gameplay experience but also contribute to the game’s immersive storytelling, making it a visual treat for fans of the fantasy genre.
Also, as someone who’s a tad scared of all things creepy-crawly, this game really does make you a bit nervous at points as they really do look real!
We’re not talking Grounded levels of scary, but just be prepared.
Story
One of the best things about Solasta: Crown Of The Magister is that it weaves a compelling narrative set in a rich and immersive fantasy world.

Basically, kiss boredom goodbye.
