Do you let self-doubt and fear rule your career decisions?I know that I have. And it cost me dearly.I let others step in the spot line and get opportunities. All because I wasn’t comfortable or sure of the outcomes. When we have career decisions, it often feels like life and death, and we overthink it.And then doubt and judgment rule the outcomes. You lose when you doubt or fear taking on opportunities or doing something that feels uncomfortable. Your dreams are lost.Your capacity and ability to be uncomfortable and try new things stalls.By conquering your self-doubt and fear, you open the door to the success you've always desired. You don’t get to that next level you want. And often, you get very comfortable giving into that fear and judgment.Life’s too short, and your potential is too great to let doubt and judgment hold you hostage.Every time you doubt asking for what you need, tooting your own horn, or putting yourself out there because of what someone might think, you are preventing yourself from achieving your dreams. Now is the time to seize control of your career, to make those power moves that propel you forward. To cast doubt to the side and lean into the actions that will bring you closer to what you want.Today, reflect on one decision where you let doubt and fear guide you. Instead of dwelling on it, take a bold step to move away from that decision. Remember, you have the power to shape your future.Remarkable things await you. Now, go out there and make those power moves.Believe in yourself, and don't let doubt and fear hold you back.Your potential is limitless. If you need help unlocking that potential, reach out.

In-House Friends,Robin is trying to become a world-class journalist on the TV show How I Met Your Mother. However, she is stuck on a local TV news program, where she is miserable.Robin's work life was pretty embarrassing. The station forced her to cover dumb, fluff stories.Robin starred in an adult diaper commercial that ran for years.Coworkers made fun of her. There was also the time she slipped on horse poop while in the air.Robin was pretty darn miserable.Because, likemost of the in-house attorneys I speak with, Robin knew she could have a more significant impactand yetdidn't know how to break free of her current role. While the TV show doesn't tell us how Robin eventually became mega-successful, she became a highly sought-after journalist, traveling the world and finally delivering the news stories she wanted to cover. And I want you, like Robin, to have the impact you want. And unlike the show, I will let you in on the secrets of how to do it.If you are interested in how to advance, join me at my complimentary masterclass, Path to Promotion: For Inside Counsel Over Being Stuck in Place.Thiswill be my last class on in-house advancement until the Fall. So, if you want to prepare for a successful second half of the year, join us.Click here to save your seat: https://lnkd.in/evtQkxjA

"Every time I try to get out, they pull me back in.”Michael Corleone,The Godfather 3When I speak to lawyers at firms or companies, I tell them that their technical legal expertise will not get them where they want to go.It's crucial for lawyers to recognize the significance of their non-legal skills in their career growth. These skills, often overlooked, are the key to becoming a well-rounded professional. And I hear from them that whenever they try to distance themselves from the legal work and focus on their other skills, they are pulled back into the work. These extremely brilliant attorneys are unable to carve out this time. They feel that they do not control their calendars or time. They feel that if they don’t do the legal work, the result will not be as perfect as if they had. They swear that they can’t invest the time in themselves. And for this reason, they stand still. If you cannot control how you invest your time, how can others expect you to control a legal matter or trust you with a team to manage it?Empower yourself by taking charge of your career.Don't wait for opportunities to come to you; create them. What would you do if you took control of your career and had the courage to invest in your personal development today? The possibilities are endless, and the first step is always the hardest. What would be different? And please don’t tell yourself they won’t let you.

As you know, I'm a fan of the show Hacks, and one of the main characters, Deborah Vance, has been a source of inspiration for me.In the show,Deborah Vance has her big comeback--- and she makes the Time 100 list, While walking that red carpet, a reporter asks Deborah if she ever thought she would make the list. And Deborah simply responds yes.Deborah believed in herself—even when things looked extremely bleak. She knew if she took control of her career and steered it—she would eventually (there were many missteps and lessons along the way). The same is true for you.Seizing control of your career, rather than letting it happen by default, can be a game-changer, not just for your professional life, but also for your overall well-being.One of my clients, “Jane” felt stuck in her career and did not know what to do. She began to take ownership of her career by touting her expertise, advociating for what she needed and leveraging her network and everything changed. Jane later told me that she had waited too long to take control and had wrongly let fear stand in her way.Is fear or your mindset holding you back from the legal career you want? What can you do to take a step toward the career and life you want?Remember, I'm here to support you every step of the way. If you need any assistance, don't hesitate to reach out.

"I believe in individuality, that everybody is special, and it's up to them to find that quality and let it live." Grace JonesNo one would ever accuse Grace of trying to fit in and conform.Grace knows that she benefits by leveraging her own uniqueness. For instance, she embraced her distinctive voice and style in her music career, which set her apart from other artists and contributed to her success. Grace also believes not being able to be yourself is one of the worst things ever for a person. As Grace said, "It gives you low self-esteem. You never get to reach that peak in your life. You should always be able to be yourself and be proud of yourself."No one gets to the next level by being a pale imitation of someone else. You need to use your own strengths and special sauce.Grace also elevates herself and her career by focusing on learning and being strategic. As hard as it is to imagine a Grace "replacement," Grace believes:"There will always be a replacement coming along very soon - a newer version, a crazier version, a louder version. So if you haven't got a long-term plan, then you are merely a passing phase, the latest trend, yesterday's event."Grace is saying that you need to examine the environment, assess what is going on, and adapt and plan.Being true to yourself, being open to learning, and being adaptable are the keys that unlock the doors to progress. As Grace said, "I like discovering things for myself. It's a childlike characteristic, actually. But that gives you a certain amount of power, and people are intimidated by that."What would you be doing differently if you leveraged your uniqueness? What would that open up for you?How about taking one step in that direction today

I hear all the time from people that they are "too busy" to focus on their career or business development. They have "real work" to do.As if investing in themselves and their futures—isn't critical orrealwork. And often, doing that work does not get them the desired results. We've all heard that 20% of our actions get 80% of the results. It's crucialtoregularly assess the 20%of our actions that yield 80% of the results. By doing so, we can de-prioritize the 80% that may keep us busy but not necessarily advance us.Consider the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment that comes from focusing on the 20% of tasks that yield 80% of the results. This shift in focus can lead to more meaningful progress in your career or business.Being busy becomes a habit and feels effective, so we want to keep it going.Thisis why wesooften stay stuck, making little to no progress. It's a common misconception that busyness equals effectiveness. It's about understanding what tasks will truly get you to your end game and focusing on those. You need to understand what will get you to your end game. And then commit to it and let go of the housekeeping and busy work that keeps you stalled. If you are ready toget unbusy and would like help, DM me for a complimentary session.
