How to Keep Pancakes Warm in the Oven

The perfect batter has a lot to do with a delicious stack of pancakes, but so does keeping them warm. I’ve found that the oven is the easiest way to keep the centers soft and edges crispy.

Keeping Pancakes Warm in the Oven

  1. Preheat

While the pancakes are cooking, preheat the oven to 250F.

  2. Line up

Line the cooked pancakes in an even layer onto a baking sheet. Avoiding stacking the pancakes, which causes them to steam and get soggy. How to Keep Pancakes Warm (2)

  3. Keep warm

Transfer the pancakes to the oven and keep warm while you finish cooking the remaining pancake batter. How to Keep Pancakes Warm (3)

  4. How long can you keep pancakes warm in the oven?

Pancakes should be kept warm in the oven only as long as it takes you to finish cooking the batch or up to 1 hour. Anything over, and they will become tough and chewy.

Pancake Warmer

You’ve probably heard of a tortilla warmer, but what about a pancake warmer? It works just like the former but is larger to fit more pancakes! Both are effective in keeping pancakes warm.

Just place the cooked pancakes in the dish and cover them with the lid. The only downside to this method is the steam gets trapped from the stacked pancakes and can deflate them. You can help avoid excess moisture by lining the warmer with a clean kitchen towel, but they still won’t be as crispy.

You can also use this electric griddle with a warming tray. One appliance, pulling double duty!

Foil Method for Warm Pancakes

The most simple method to keep pancakes warm is to place them onto a plate and cover with aluminum foil. However, just like the pancake warmer, the steam from the cooked pancakes is trapped by the foil and makes them less fluffy.

If this isn’t a problem for your gang, then by all means use the foil.

How to Keep Pancakes Warm (7)

Keep in mind this method and pancake warmers are meant to preserve as much heat as possible but aren’t as effective as the oven method, which provides a constant heat source.

However, I usually don’t need more than 10 minutes to make a large batch of pancakes on my griddle, so any of these methods do the job of keeping pancakes warm and your crew happy.
