How many donuts do you need to make a donut cake? ›

What is in a doughnut cake, you ask? How do you make one? Well, you need three dozen Krispy Kreme Original Glazed® Doughnuts, a whole lotta whipped cream, and homemade chocolate fudge sauce. Easy enough right?

Old-fashioned cake doughnuts were called sometimes called "fry cakes" back then: Doughnuts are made of pieces of raised dough, cut into circular pieces and set to rise. After rising they are dropped into a kettle of hot fat, where they puff up into balls and become brown on the surface.

We find it's best to build from the outside in, once you've placed your doughnuts around the perimeter of the plate fill in the middle. Once you've formed a base it's time to build up, make sure you place the next layer slightly in from the previous one to help create the tapered tower look.

If you're eating a jelly- or a cream-filled doughnut, you are eating a yeast doughnut. Of course, the pinnacle of the yeast doughnut variety is the Original Glazed made by Krispy Kreme (more below). Cake doughnuts, on the other hand, are denser—dare we say, cakier—and better for dunking in your coffee.

Our Cake Donut has a crisp outer edge with a tender inside. However, cake donuts can vary in taste slightly depending on the flavor (Chocolate, Old Fashioned, Blueberry, Sour Cream). For example, the Old Fashioned Cake Donut has a mild vanilla flavor with a slight nutmeg finish.

They are actual miniature flavored cakes. They may look like a bundt, but the texture is much different than a traditional bundt cake.

Today, more than 100 different items carry the Entenmann's brand, which is currently owned by Bimbo Bakeries USA.

What is the price? We charge a flat $100 rental fee + the cost of donuts. You will need at least 4 dozen donuts to have one donut/peg.

To determine how many donuts you will need, place the donuts on a cake stand or plate in a circle, fitting in as many pieces as you can (7-8 is pretty standard). Stack another layer of donuts on top, using a few less than the first.

If donuts are the only dessert offered, we recommend 1-2 full-size or 3-4 mini donuts per person. If you are offering a dessert bar with other types of dessert you can cut that number down accordingly.

HOW MANY DONUT HOLES ARE EQUAL TO ONE DONUT. Sadly, less than you'd think. 1 regular sized donut is equivalent to about 4 donut holes. So if you're watching what you're eating, keep that conversion in mind.
