Cyberpunk 2077: What V Stands For (Both Versions) (2024)

The main protagonist in Cyberpunk 2077 is known as V. However, this isn't their real name. Depending on which gender options players choose, V can stand for different names. It's a small part of the game, and unless players take part in a certain mission and pay close attention, they might miss this little secret altogether.

Cyberpunk 2077 has an extraordinary amount of customizations. Through character creation, upgrades, and even various romance options in Cyberpunk, each player's experiences in the game feel somewhat unique. So, it shouldn't be too surprising to find out there's more than one option for what V stands for. In a game that prides itself on choices, having V only stand for two different names even seems a little limiting.

V makes a compelling protagonist. It's why the story feels so personal - since players make V look and act how they want - and it's why so many people want a third-person camera in Cyberpunkto look at their creation in-game. Although it's clear that V isn't the protagonist's real name, players may miss a key portion of the story that sheds light on what V actually stands for. Depending on which gender options players choose, V stands for either Vincent or Valerie. So far, this little tidbit of information is only known to be found in one place in the game.

How To Find Out V's Real Name In Cyberpunk 2077

If players choose the masculine character, V stands for Vincent. With the feminine options, V stands for Valerie. This is seemingly only revealed during the "Automatic Love" mission in Cyberpunk 2077. As a part of this mission, players must speak to a doll at Cloud Club. Before that, the receptionist at Cloud Club will scan V's neural link to determine which doll they're most compatible with. That information is then downloaded by the doll, so that when V interacts with it, the doll calls V by their actual name.

Since Cyberpunk 2077 is built around choices, players can choose how V reacts to being called by their real name. For now, this is the only known time in the game that V's real name is ever mentioned. However, there are a lot of missions in the game, and even more arecoming through DLC in the future, so it's possible that both V's name and more information about their background will be unveiled at a later date.

The fact that V's true name is hidden inside of a mission is a little strange, but then again, almost everything about V is strange. Players aren't shown a lot of background information about V, perhaps in an attempt for V to feel like the players themselves. Still, it's interesting that V stands for either Vincent or Valerie, depending on which gender options are chosen. Perhaps more secrets about V will be shown whenever Cyberpunk 2077 gets its first long-awaited DLC.
