With an adventure as epic as the one told in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and its predecessor, FF7 Remake, there is a plethora of content to enjoy. Although the storyline will continue in the next game of this trilogy, there may still be more that a player wants to see and do with Cloud and the party within the adventure of Rebirth. The game is designed as a full standalone title, and even those who played the original Final Fantasy 7 will find surprises and new engaging things to hold their interest in Rebirth.

Even beyond the main storyline, FF7 Rebirth has engaging side quests, a full open-world to explore, and creative minigames that make the experience even more delightful, which would be a shame to miss out on. However, it's not clear from the outset whether the game can continue to be played after the story of Rebirth ends, or if that ends the playthrough. Particularly with the game having some pretty extensive work to meet the PlayStation platinum trophy requirements, it is good to know whether the end is actually the end.

After completing the main story for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, a prompt appears to make a new save file of the completed run of the game. After the file is saved, players can continue to replay chapters of the game by going to the Chapter Selection screen. Selecting a chapter will give the option to play it with the current characters' levels, weapons, material, and relationship status, or play it on Hard difficulty.

The PlayStation platinum trophy requirements need every chapter to be completed on Hard, but even simply going back and replaying chapters on the normal settings can be fun and allow players to see things they missed. All minigames can be played again by going to their respective chapter, and many previously missed open-world activities can be discovered.

Progress Can Accumulate After Beating The Game

As a player goes to select a new chapter to play in, their character will be taken to the start of that chapter with all their current progress and all progress earned during that chapter will continue to accumulate and carry forward to the next. For example, if a player replays Chapter 8 and earns more levels and items and then wants to play through Chapter 10 next, everything from the replay of Chapter 8 will remain with them. The new levels earned in Chapter 8 will be there when they start Chapter 10.

Any odd jobs that were not completed will be reset, and the game gives players a choice on how to carry over quest data for the replay. Also, it is important to note that there are some manuscripts and other items that can only be found while playing on Hard Mode, which provides even more incentive for replaying the game on this difficulty.

Even if a player is not looking to chase all 61 PlayStation trophies that FF7 Rebirth has, there is a lot of value in replaying the game on normal or hard difficulties. The massive world of Gaia has so many side activities and little details to explore, that a person can put in well over 100 hours and still be finding things to do in the game. Playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will give a lot of content even on the first run, but being able to replay Chapters can make the experience even more rewarding.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and will see Cloud and his friends set off beyond the walls of Midgar to explore the world, stop Sephiroth's machinations, and see the world outside their slum prison. Now that the whispers of fate no longer guide the characters along the pre-destined path set in the original PlayStation classic Final Fantasy 7, the heroes (and villains) will shape the future. The game will still visit prominent locales and revisit crucial story points, but it will be a more significant departure from the first game from the source material.
