What makes these cookies “low-calorie?”

Simple, less is more. I have found that a total of 1 cup of sugar combined with only a 1/2 cup of butter results in a perfectly chewy center and crispy outside. It creates a perfect cookie to curb your craving without sacrificing taste and texture with sugar replacement and/or protein powder.

Substitute sugar with a sugar substitute like Swerve or monk fruit sweetener in any of these recipes to reduce the calories. Please note, that this may change the taste and texture of the cookie but will drop your calories if you’re looking for a lower-calorie option.

Common Ingredients and Substitutions in these cookie recipes:

Light Brown Sugar: can be replaced with coconut sugar or sugar substitute.

White Sugar: can be replaced with coconut sugar or sugar substitute.

Melted Butteror coconut oil.

All-Purpose Flour: for gluten free use Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free 1:1 flour. Almond, coconut, oat flour and other flours have not been tested and will change the texture and taste of your cookies.

Chocolate Chips:use your favorite, dairy-free or no-sugar-added version like Lily’s Chocolate Chips in any of these recipes.

Can you add protein powder to these cookies?

For the cookies without protein powder, I would not recommend adding it. They’re truly perfect as is and I suggest you try them as written. For cookies with protein powder, be sure to check out which protein powder I have listed as substitutions will change the taste and texture at your own risk. A fail-safe protein powder in my personal opinion that creates a nice fluffy (not chewy and cristy) cookie that also tastes great is PEScience protein powder.

How can a cookie fit in my macros?

Easy! Log it first. A simple trick when tracking macros, especially if you’re a dessert lover, is to log your dessert first and build your day around your dessert. For example, if you know you’re going to want two Oreo Chunk Cookies at the end of the night, log those and add protein in every other meal of the day to meet your goals.

You can make cookies and eat them too when tracking macros.
